Once pregnant, acupuncture can help with the following:

Nausea and vomiting:

During the first trimester, the reaction to the elevated hormones can vary from none to mild increased sense of smell, morning sickness, 24/7 nausea, to vomiting leading to dehydration and malnutrition which can be harmful to both the mother and the fetus.

Solution:

--Seasick band

Some women with mild morning sickness may find the seasick band wear on the wrist provide some comfort.  For others, it dose not.  Here is where acupuncture comes in to help in providing an effective alternative to medications.

--Acupuncture

Recent NIH ( National institute of Health) consensus has confirmed this effective use of acupuncture for nausea during the pregnancy.  This procedure is done with disposable needle inserted in arm near the wrists as well as other points on the legs and feet.  There is no side-effect and perfectly safe for the fetus.  Most of the patients may experience an immediate relief of nausea.  Although, this initial relief may only last from a few hours to a day, it will gradually extend to days and last longer and longer after about six to nine treatments.  The patients usually come in 3 times a week in the first 1 to 2 weeks. As the frequency of the nausea decrease, so does the frequency of the treatments.

Pains:

Headaches, muscle and joint pain such as neck, lower back can be treated safely without medications by using acupuncture.

Premature Contractions:

Having passed thru all the difficulties of getting pregnant, the nausea, it is even more important to prevent premature birth.  Most of the pregnant women will experience contractions near their due day around the 40th week.  But to a few women, the contraction may occur abnormally many weeks earlier which may result miscarriage or premature birth.  Acupuncture treatments can stop the premature contraction therefore allowing the pregnancy to go to full term with only 2 to 6 treatments.

Breeched Positions:

For women who wish to have a natural childbirth, a breech fetus can be effectively turned into head down position by using acupuncture before week 34. Points are on the feet and is safe for the fetus.

Postpartum Depression:

After giving birth, some mothers are happy, and joyful, feeling sense of fulfillment, and accomplishment. Some mothers however, may suffer from postpartum depression with extreme fatigue lack of desire to even getting out of bed, poor sleep, antisocial, quick temper, frequent arguments with their spouses, can't think of anything to do make themselves feel better, anger, revenge shopping, crying, sense of being overwhelmed, even suicidal thoughts.  Acupuncture helps the mothers quickly reverse the depression by readjust and restore the body's balance.  Acu-points are selected to increase their energy, allowing them to have more restful and solid sleep, treating depression all at the same time.  Unlike, taking antidepressants, patients often experience more energy, better sleep and less depression after 2 to 6 treatments within one to 2 weeks.  What is more, there is no side effect, no drugs.
