1-10-06 update A New Record.  Pregnant naturally with a high FSH of 56     A 40-yr-old infertility patient  from Orange County who had tried on their own for 3 years  without success.   She came to see Dr. Lee in early Aug. 2005.  She had not had a period for about 4 months with a high FSH of 56.  She was in menopause with hot flashes and sweating so severe that her cloths needed change every 2 hours at night.  She came 2 to 3 times a week and by the end of Sept. 05 the hot flashes had began to decease.  In early Oct. 05 her FSH was dropping but only slightly (49.4).  She continued acupuncture and herbs 3x/wk and by early Nov. 05, the hot flashes were mostly gone.  Her FSH got down bellow 25.  She happily got her 1st period on 11-5-05 after missing it for 6 months.  She still comes at rate of 3x/wk and taking herbs.  By early Dec. 05, her FSH was at 8.  She got pregnant NATURALLY on 1/10/06.     Bottom line: With Dr. Lee’s individualized intense acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatments, a high FSH is no longer a sentence of the end of the egg reserve.  One still has the chance of achieving pregnancy with her own egg.

1-30-06 update
A 31-yr-old infertility patient from Orange County who had tried on 5 IUIs without success.  She came to see Dr. Lee in Nov. 2005 just  before her 1st IVF.  She has no time to correct her imbalance.  Despite of 6 acupuncture and herbal treatments, she did not get pregnant.   She then continued the treatments with Dr. Lee for one more month and  got pregnant NATURALLY .  She is on weekly treatment program with Dr. Lee to prevent miscarriages.
Lesson learned: : Get prepared first before starting IVF.   When the body has a chance to get optimized, it will do what you want naturally.  Do not force yourself to get pregnant.  Instead, focus your energy on the preparation.  When your body is ready, pregnancy will come naturally.

02/9/06 update.
A 38-yr-old patient from Orange County who had failed 4 IVF cycles prior to seeing Dr. Lee.  She had both of her tubes removed due to severe endometriosis. So IVF is only way to get pregnant.  She had only 4 treatments of acupuncture with herbs in 20 days before she started her 5th IVF.  She had to cancelled the 5th IVF cycle due to lack of the growth of the follicles.  She did not continue acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatment until one week before she started her 6th IVF stimulation.  Again, because she was not optimized, there were no growth of follicles.  After she cancelled the cycle, she agreed to get her body ready by taking three month of Chinese herbs.  In Jan. 06, after Dr. Lee decided that her body was optimized, she started her 7th IVF stimulation.  Along with 7 more acupuncture treatments, She got pregnant on 2/9/06.  She is on weekly treatment program with Dr. Lee to prevent miscarriages.

Lesson learned: Get prepared first before starting IVF.   When the body has a chance to get optimized, it will do what you want naturally.  Do not force yourself to get pregnant.  Instead, focus your energy on the preparation between IVF cycles.  When your body is ready, pregnancy will be achieved.

02/13/06 update.
A 40-yr-old patient from Orange County who had failed 2 IUI and 2 IVF cycles prior to seeing Dr. Lee.  She had 2 laparoscopies for severe endometriosis prior to the IVFs.  But still not able to get pregnant.  She had 20 acupuncture treatments with herbs and tried her 3rd IVF without success.  She did not give up and tried her 4th IVF with 3 more acupuncture treatments 6 months later.  She is now pregnant as of 2/13/06. She is on weekly treatment program with Dr. Lee to prevent miscarriages.

Lesson learned: Even with surgeries, the endometriosis is not always gets cleaned out.  For some patients, it may take many months for acupuncture to work.  For this patient, it took 9 months of acupuncture treatments plus 6 month of rest.

02/17/06 update. A close call. Getting ready in 4 treatments.
A 33-yr-old patient from Orange County who had failed 1 IUI and 2 IVF cycles prior to seeing Dr. Lee.  She had one tube blocked.  She had only 11 days left before her next IVF starts.  She was able to arrange 4 acupuncture treatments to get ready for her 3rd IVF. With 6 more acupuncture treatments during IVF, she got pregnant as of 2/17/06.  She was lucky, It was a close call.  She is young (33) and for someone age 38 and older, 4 treatments in 11 days would have been too short to get optimized.  She is on weekly acupuncture treatment program with Dr. Lee to prevent miscarriages.
Lesson learned: Getting ready takes time.  It is better to start treatments one or two months ahead and then take time off after one is ready to wait for  the scheduled IVF than coming in a few days before the start of IVF and hoping to get ready in a few sessions.  Even the case above shows that it is possible.  But, often there is not enough time to get ready.  One should ask the following question:  Would you want to pay $10,000 for a chance to compete in the Olympic with only 11 days left for training?

03/1706 update.
A 38-yr-old patient from Orange County who had failed 3 IVF cycles prior to seeing Dr. Lee.  She had one of her tubes removed due to severe endometriosis.  The other tube was 100% blocked.  So IVF is only way to get pregnant.  She is determined to get her body optimized before she attempts her 4th IVF.  She had a total of 17 treatments of acupuncture with Chinese herbs in 6 months before she started her 4th IVF.  She got pregnant on 3/17/06.

03/3106 update.  High FSH of 33 with only one ovary

A 41-yr-old patient from Orange County who had failed 2 IVF cycles prior to seeing Dr. Lee.  She had both of her tubes and one of her ovaries  removed due to hydrosalpinx and scar tissue formations.  So IVF is only way to get pregnant.  But, with FSH of 33, her follicles did not grow with IVF stimulations.  She is determined to get her body optimized before she attempts her 3rd IVF.  She started her FSH reduction treatments on 9/21/05 with acupuncture and non-estrogenic Chinese herbs. One month later, her day 3 FSH dropped down to 19 then 16, 18, 12, 12.5, 9.2 and finally in March 06 down to 11 (with E2<50) after 19 treatments in 6 months.  She had additional 5 treatments of acupuncture with Chinese herbs with her 3rd IVF.  She got pregnant on 3/31/06.  She is on weekly treatment program with Dr. Lee to prevent miscarriages.

Critics may say that anyone one can reduce FSH just by giving patients estrogen.  But, that will suppress growth of follicles minimizes the chances of pregnancy.  The reductions of FSH achieved by Dr. Lee’s method maintain the normal follicular growth and ovulation which are essential for fertility while reductions of FSH by giving estrogen can not.

Lesson learned: Get prepared first before starting IVF.   When the body has a chance to get optimized, it will do what you want naturally.  Do not force yourself to get pregnant.  Instead, focus your energy on the preparation between IVF cycles.  When your body is ready, pregnancy will be achieved even with previous history of high FSH of 33 and age of 41 with only one ovary.

2006.  High FSH 18, one tube blocked, fibroids up to 4×6 cm
Acupuncture for infertility in action in 2006. Case study 23
5-4-06 update
A 39-yr-old infertility patient from Los Angeles County who had failed 3 IUI cycles.  She came to see Dr. Lee in late Aug. 2005 with multiple fibroids and a complete blocked right tube and FSH of 18.   She had 30 acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbs designed to normalize her FSH and got pregnant naturally in 7 months.  She is on weekly treatment program with Dr. Lee to prevent miscarriages. Her husband also received 10 acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatments to improve his sperm counts motility and morphology.

Lesson learned: Multiple IUI failures with age 39 and FSH of 18 and a large fibroid obstructing her right tube got pregnant naturally seems impossible. With only one tube open, she would naturally take twice as long to get pregnant in comparison with a patient with 2 tube.  So 7 months is equivalent to 3 and half menstrual cycles.  Patient’s success has a great deal to do with her faith in herself and in the treatments.

5-5-06 update
A 36-yr-old infertility patient from Orange County who had failed 4 IUI cycles.  She came to see Dr. Lee in late Jan 2006, 2 days before the start of her 1st IVF.  She did not have time to get her body optimized in just 2 days.  She went ahead with IVF and 7 acupuncture treatments without success.  Being a physician assistant, she appreciate what Dr. Lee has to preach—getting ready first.  So she determined to spent 2 to 3 months to get herself ready with weekly acupuncture treatments and multiple Chinese herbal formula.  From the 1st day she learned her negative IVF result on 2/24/06 she started acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatment right away.  By 4/4/06, she was almost optimized.  She continued with the acupuncture and Chinese herbs to get ready for her 2nd IVF in June 06.  But, she found out that she was pregnant naturally on 5/5/06 after only 11 treatments.

Lesson learned: Multiple IUI and IVF failures often indicates a subtle undetected imbalance exists in the couple.  A careful evaluation by an experienced expert in the field of reproductive medicine with TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) can correct such imbalance and yield miraculous results.  It pays to invest the time and money on getting optimized. In the case above, the patients put in 2 months and one week of her time and spent less than one thousand dollars.  But, she saved about $15,000 for IVF.  Even if she did not get pregnant naturally, she is still better prepared for her next IVF.

A 35-yr-old infertility patient from Orange County who had 3 miscarriages from 2000 to 2003.  She came to see Dr. Lee in early Aug. 2005 after failing 2 IUI cycles. Her FSH was ranging from 10 to 29.  She already scheduled to start IVF stimulation in 4 days.  There was little time for optimization.  After  8 days of  stimulation, she had only one follicle. The IVF was converted to IUI.  Again, she and failed to get pregnant.  She continued her acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatments from Sept. 05 to May 06 with 24 more treatments and got pregnant naturally on 5/13/05 with strong HCG and progesterone levels. She is now on weekly acupuncture treatments to prevent miscarriages.

Lesson learned: Multiple IUI failures with FSH of 29 can still get pregnant given enough time to her body normalized.  In her case it took 9 and a half months.  Looking back, it was her persistence and confidence in herself and in Dr. Lee’s treatments that paid off.

5-15-06 update    High FSH of 32 got pregnant naturally.
A 36-yr-old infertility patient from Orange County who had one child naturally 2 years ago but could not get pregnant again due to high FSH which has been climbing from 15 in Jan 06 to FSH of 23 in Feb 06. She had only 3 acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatments before she tested again in March 06 which was 32.  She was told to consider donor eggs by her RE.  She has faith in Dr. Lee’s treatments and continued the treatments despite of the continued rise of FSH.  One month later with 6 more treatments, her FSH dropped down to 12.7 (E2=20.7) in April 06.  With 6 more treatments, she got pregnant naturally on 5/15/06. 11-04-06 update
A 41-yr-old infertility patient from LA County who failed one IVF cycle prior to seeing Dr. Lee on 4/30/05.  She had 2 laparoscopies to remove endometriosis and chocolate cysts ranging 4 to 5 cm in size.  Her FSH was at 30. Her tubes were 100% blocked in one and partially blocked in the other.  She wants to get pregnant naturally.  After only 9 acupuncture treatments with Chinese herbs for her specific condition, she tested positive for pregnancy on 07/09/05.  But she miscarried on 8/25/05.  She went to RE to start IVF but was told that due do her high FSH, she was not a good candidate for IVF.  She decided to continue Dr. Lee’s the acupuncture and Chinese herbal treatments. Her year-long persistence paid off. Her FSH dropped down to 19.3 on 8/28/06.  She got pregnant naturally again on 10/17/06 with strong HCG numbers.  Her ultrasound on 11/3/06 showed 2 heart beats.  She has twins!!
She is now on weekly acupuncture treatments to prevent miscarriages.
But, only one of the twins survived of 1/27/07.
Lessen learned: We are all different.  For some infertility patients, it requires fewer treatments and shorter time period to get pregnant.  For others with high FSH, endometriosis, adhesions, advance age, it often take longer 9 to 12 months to achieve pregnancy.  Don’t give up too early.

A 41-yr-old infertility patient from Los Angeles County who failed two IUI cycles prior to seeing Dr. Lee on 7/20/05.  She wants to try acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbs along with IUI.  Dr. Lee found that there is moderate internal imbalance in her body and started treatments and herbs designed  for her particular case right away.  But, her IUI is to start the next day.  With no time to prepare her condition, she failed the IUI two more times.  She then decided to try naturally in Sept. 2005.  She was optimized 7 month later in March By 11/21/06.  She got pregnant naturally in July 2006 with a total of 34 treatments.

11-21-06 update
A 39-yr-old infertility patient from Orange County who failed one IVF cycle prior to seeing Dr. Lee on 9/29/06.  She wants to focus on preparation and optimization with acupuncture treatments and Chinese herbs before trying 2nd IVF.  Dr. Lee found that there is severe internal imbalance in her body and started treatments and herbs designed  for her particular case right away. By 11/21/06 only 8 treatments later, she got pregnant naturally. She is now on weekly acupuncture treatments to prevent miscarriages.

Lesson learned: Don’t panic with age 39.  One can still get pregnant given enough time to her body normalized.  In her case it took only 8 treatments (which is very fast) to get her pregnant naturally.   Looking back, the quickest and shortest way to get pregnant is to get the body optimized by an expert with a tract record of success.
